If you've got a similar piece of outdoor furniture junk you're itching to make over, here's how you can do it.
Without a doubt, this thrown out metal and terracotta outdoor setting had been collecting dirt and rust for quite sometime. It all looked too hard with the condition it was in. I was that close to moving on from it (like my previous 2 neighbours had), but with a bit of CREATIVE COURAGE and the right materials, it has been given another BURST of life and contemporary STYLE with a POP of happy yellow spray paint!

Ok, so I don't have a pool or any need what so ever for an outdoor shower, but it'd be cool don't you think? Maybe one of you out there will have use for an outdoor shower and feel inspired to build it? Here are 5 DIY designs with instructions you might want to use. At the end of a productive day, it's UNWIND TIME by soaking up that magical SUNSET and CALMING blue sky, with a drink in hand whilst ENJOYING simple nibblies on my DIY outdoor PALLET DAY BED RETREAT. I love this space in the corner of our courtyard. I look up at the sky and watch the clouds pass as if time has slowed down deliberately to remind me, "Hey, here's that simply beautiful sky again."
It's quite easy to create a pallet day bed so it's great as a first pallet project. Not much construction involved at all. Here's how you can create one in 4 easy steps. A planter box that can be EASILY MOVED around to catch the sun or shade as needed all year round ... AND as I CHANGE MY MIND about where it looks best depending on my MOOD for the day, week or month :) YES PLEASE!
I can't get enough of vertical gardens right now! There is a spot in my yard where I'm stashing my collection of pallets/wood to upcycle. Wouldn't it be great to make it more discreet from the outside by blurring it's obviousness away? For sure!
I mentioned in my first Wooden Pallet Vertical Garden post that there are some great vertical pallet garden tutorials out there already. Here is just my version with a step by step guide of how you can build a simple one too without needing to leave it laying on the ground to establish for a few weeks first (just because I can't wait). I do this by using shallow rooted plants and fully lining the inside of the pallet. I love the idea of repurposing wooden pallets into vertical gardens. I've seen a few out there in upcycling land that look really good with great tutorials, such as the one on Life on the Balcony by Fern Richardson and Design Sponge by Kate Pruitt. Did I want one? Definitely!
It was time to part with my former compost bin. Things hadn't worked out between us over the last 5 years. He was strong and sturdy due to his plastic build and was great at keeping stuff neatly together BUT he was too tall for me with too much air about him. It made our lives dry where nothing rich and organic came of our relationship.
Upon reflection, It probably wasn't just him but ME. I didn't nuture him as I needed. Instead, I just wanted him to be there, take my scraps and make it all happen. We weren't destined to be, so respectfully we parted ways to find our true composting mates. He hooked up on Ebay and me, closer to home :) NOW, let me tell you more about my new compost bin, JIMOTHY. I couldn't resist giving him a name just for the silly fun of it ;p As spring was here, our garden/outdoor space needed a refresh and I didn't want to spend a lot of money and just buy new furniture or planter boxes so I thought why not try and build it myself. Surely I can do it even though I have little idea about building stuff with tools, wood etc right? I've been getting the tickle to create and transform something that seems old, tired and unwanted into something with WOW and learn something new along the way ... so on my way I went to give this upcycling - repurposing stuff a go! Here is my very own and first Wooden Pallet Chillout Lounge created with the help of my friend Miss Mascara Me.
